Vintage, handmade Moroccan leather "Guerrab" or water carrier bag
The water carriers of Morocco, or "Guerrabs", colorfully dressed and ringing their bells, famously wander outside the medina of Marrakech by the ancient Place Jemaa el-Fnaa offering water from ornate copper cups. They travel from the surrounding Atlas mountains carrying these traditional bags, wearing bright hats with wool tassels, and singing old chants. This is a disappearing trade, and in turn a disappearing craft. The water carriers use the coins they receive from tourists around the world to lovingly and gradually adorn their bags, mementos of their journeys
